CSJ Motherhouse Brings Back Discover Camp for 2023

After a 3-year break due to Covid restrictions, summer camp returns

Sisters of St. Joseph, in Concordia, has made the decision to bring back their summer camp for girls. Discover Camp is geared toward girls entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades to play, pray and do ministry together.

Registration is open for 30 Catholic girls to spend a few days at the Motherhouse getting acquainted with each other, learning about themselves and deepening their relationship with God.

Many activities are planned to enrich the days of the campers. Swimming, team building, games, songs and skits are just a few of the items on the agenda for Thursday, June 15th through Saturday, June 17th.

Catholic students from colleges and high schools will help some of our sisters lead the campers in the daily activities. Many have attended the camp themselves when they were younger and will return as camp leaders.

The Camp coordinators are Sister Anna Marie Broxterman, Sister Bev Carlin and Donna Reynold. The camp directors will be Marissa Roberts and Trinity Price.

“When the first Camp was planned in the year 2000, the Sister planners described their dream as part of the name: Discover Camp, an Extraordinary Experience! The extraordinary dream came true as campers, counselors and parents will attest. Covid brought us to a rude ending in 2020 even though that year’s plan was in place. Former counselors are so excited that we are hosting it again this year,” said sister Anna Marie. “It is a rare opportunity for young girls to discover and claim their talents and gifts.”

The girls will have three activity-packed days and will “camp out” in their sleeping bags on the fifth floor of the beautiful, historic Nazareth Motherhouse building.

Meals and snacks will be provided by the Motherhouse staff and the event will wrap up with a closing Mass and an ice cream social, which family and friends will be invited to enjoy with the campers. Sister Anna Marie expressed, “The closing Mass bears witness to the phenomenal diversity of talent of the Campers and Counselors. It is indeed cause for the Church to rejoice!”

Participation is limited to 30 girls on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is now open with a deadline of May 26, 2023. The cost to attend the camp is $85 which includes the room, snacks and meals and a camp T-shirt. If you have a daughter who would like to attend, visit www.csjkansas.org and look for “Discover Camp” in the menu.
