Ruben Garcia will present in person
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia Kansas offer the opportunity for the public to become informed about what’s happening on the southern border of the U.S. when they “Bring the Border Experience to Concordia.”
Three knowledgeable speakers will present non-political, educational facts about immigration on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Nazareth Motherhouse auditorium. The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a Zoom presentation from Alyson Ball, a nationwide presenter of “the basics” on U.S. Immigration. Alyson will explain about asylum-seekers and immigration laws that affect north-bound migrants.
A catered meal from Concordia’s own El Puerto Mexican Restaurant will be served before the second speaker of the day, Rosie Vogan. Rosie will travel from Minnesota to join us in person and share her experiences and insights from her time spent witnessing and volunteering on the border.
The final presenter of the day will be Ruben Garcia, joining us at the Motherhouse, from El Paso, Texas. Ruben is the founder and director of Annunciation House, a non-profit organization that sustains a network of shelters, facilities and services for migrants in El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico. Ruben has first-hand experience traveling across the border and will speak on our moral responsibilities concerning immigrants.
There will be time allowed for group discussion and questions and answers with each presenter. The program will close at 3:00 p.m.
A fee of $25, which includes the noon meal, is suggested, and an RSVP is required by Saturday, October 14. Contact Anna Marie Broxterman to reserve your spot, or with
