Sr. Annie Killian, OP, Takes Final Vows as Consecrated Woman Religious

Columbus, OH – The Dominican Sisters of Peace and our Church were blessed by the Perpetual Profession of Vows of Sr. Ann E. (Annie) Killian, OP, at the Columbus Motherhouse Chapel on August 3, 2025.

The ceremony was attended by Sisters from around the country and Sr. Annie’s family and friends. It was also live-streamed to reach the Congregation’s Sisters and Associates around the world.

As a former Assistant Professor of English at Ohio Dominican University, Annie’s ceremony featured musicians including ODU’s Director of Campus Ministries Emily Strand and students from Salt and Light, the ODU Campus Ministry Organization.

Ohio Dominican University Chaplain and Dominican Sisters of Peace Associate, Fr. Dan Millisor, presided at the Liturgy. Motherhouse Chaplain, Fr. Carlos Quijano, OP, and Fr. Tony Davis of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, Columbus, were concelebrants.

Sister Annie’s discernment began in 2014. She entered the Congregation as a candidate in 2017, the novitiate in 2020, and made Temporary Vows in 2022. On professing perpetual vows, Sr Annie said, “I am ready to promise not only my present but my future to God.”

During Sr. Annie’s Profession, the congregation was moved by a blessing read by her father, Dr. Thomas Killian, offered in memory of her mother, Dr. Sally Killian, who passed away in 2015. “…Take courage, daughter, and boldly affirm the dignity of every person, gently insisting upon equal justice for all. In giving your whole self to God, may your life be a blessing for others, bringing peace and the sure knowledge that God Who Is Love truly dwells among us.”

Sr. Annie Killian was recently appointed Assistant Professor of English at the University of Notre Dame. This semester she will be instructing undergraduate and graduate students in medieval poetry and drama. Previously, besides serving as Assistant Professor of English at Ohio Dominican University, she was the inaugural Public Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow at the Medieval Institute, Notre Dame, IN. She also has taught with the Inside Out Prison Exchange Program and the Moreau College Initiative.

Sr. Annie is an elected National Council Member for PAX Christi USA and a leader and presenter at Dominican Youth Movement USA’s “Preaching in Action” Conferences. She is also a member of the Futuring Leadership Team for the Dominican Sisters Conference and has volunteered with Kolbe House Jail Ministry, an outreach for men and women following their release from incarceration.  Her writing has appeared in Commonwealth Magazine and Global Sisters Report.

Sr. Ann E. Killian signs her perpetual vows, as Prioress Pat Twohill looks on and Sr. Anne Keenan acts as witness.

Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, Sr. Pat Twohill, OP, says, “The Congregation and the Church truly are blessed by Sr. Annie’s vocation. Her witness points to the ongoing vitality of consecrated life in our Church. We rejoice that she has professed perpetual vows as a Dominican Sister of Peace. She is committed to using the many gifts God has given her to advance the Reign of God.”

Sr. Annie holds a PhD and BA in English Language and Literature from Yale University and an MPhil from the University of Oxford.

The Dominican Sisters of Peace currently have four women in formation for consecrated religious life; two made their temporary vows in late August.
